Why Stirling?

With a rich history, Stirling has so much to offer

Stirling is Scotland’s sixth city, having been granted official city status for Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee in 2002. Throughout the years of Scottish Wars of Independence, Stirling and its magnificent medieval castle was known as the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’ and is often reported as whoever controlled Stirling, controlled Scotland.

Alongside the castle, the National Wallace Monument and the Battle of Bannockburn Heritage Centre, are key battlefield sits which pay homage to William Wallace (‘Braveheart’) and King Robert the Bruce. Both sites are well worth a visit.

Stirling, though, offers much more with shopping centre, restaurants and can act as a base to explore Scotland further including Glasgow and Edinburgh, Perth and the splendid Loch Lomond and Trosscahs National Park.
